Hello My Dearest Baked By Umi blog..
Business was put to halt for the whole last year, and half of this year as well. I haven't been selling much of my cakes since the last time I wrote... but I've been baking cakes for family and friends in between. I'm going to share some of my bakes here.
Today was the celebration for one of my nephew's birthday. The theme requested was Spongebob Squarepants. I decided to to use fondant this time, and this is my very first cake with full coverage of fondant. I've been working with small fondant figurines but haven't really incorporate the fondant for the whole cake, as I don't really favour the taste of the fondant itself to be eaten with the cake. Anyways, pretty cakes made people happy as well, so I decided to make use of fondant for my nephew's birthday. I used banana cake which has already been our family's favourite. The fact of having buttercream on top of banana cake might affect the beauty taste of the cake itself, I decided to use fondant so that people can easily separate that fondant part and enjoy the cake by itself.

Last week was another nephew's birthday, and the theme was Minecraft. I made a minecraft grass block cake, however the block isn't square enough. Hehe. It was too high for a dense chocolate cake to be assembled so I decided to end up with 3 layers. The filling in between was nutella cream cheese and on the sides of the cake I covered it with oreo + graham crackers to resemble the dirt.

So that was my nephew's 2013 birthday cakes. Last year we had combined celebration at their grandparents so I made this combined cake for them. Optimus Prime and literally 'Bumble bee' Rainbow Cake with cream cheese filling and frosting.

Oh, and this is the 2 tier wedding cake I made for my dear friend at Terengganu in January 2012. Well, the cream cheese frosting didn't cooperate well, I am still in my queer to find a good method and a good recipe to produce a cream cheese frosting that will hold longer in warmer temperatures. Using the cream cheese frosting on cupcakes didn't worry me much, but to put them on a whole cake, smoothing it to perfection was troubling. Well I guess I should go into rustic looking cakes when it comes to cream cheese frosting ey? ;)

And.. this is the recent 8 inch red velvet cake a friend ordered for her mother's birthday, just a simply good looking one. :)

So that's about it for now. :)
